Friends of the Fowey Estuary

This was a joint event with the Friends of Par Beach and was a great success!

Jane counted 56 of us on the beach which included lots of youngsters - as hoped for when we planned this for the Easter school holidays.

Scilla Hannam enthused us all with her introduction to the event and we set off across the beach with big white buckets, into the rocky pools, full of anticipation to look for treasures.

I must say that we helpers looked particularly glamorous in our new Jade Green Friends of Fowey Volunteer T shirts which Claire has had made for us – in very large sizes so that we can wear them over our wet weather gear and still be seen by those who want help.

At base we had set up our mobile marine lab with recently acquired trays, magnifying glasses, ID leaflets, seashore code etc.

Rock Poolers brought back an amazing selection of seaweeds, crabs, shells etc and we endeavoured to identify and discuss them. (No Shark or Ray egg cases though!)

We all had a really good time and the sun came out which was a bonus and we look forward to the next one on May 25 at Readymoney from 1-3…
